Today's Discoveries

2007 Chad Merlot Beau Terroir Carneros 12-bottle Case

Region: California > Other California > Carneros
Grape type: Merlot

At a Napa barbecue, one of the region's most talented young mountain Cabernet-makers, Chad Alexander, realized that he and all his winemaking friends had the same problem: their employers needed to lighten up on their inventory of wines. 2007 The Ojai Vineyard Chardonnay Clos Pepe Santa Rita Hills

Region: California > Central Coast > Santa Rita Hills
Grape type: Chardonnay

ST 93 - Regardless of price, the 2007 Ojai Clos Pepe Chardonnay is as good as any California Chardonnay we've tasted in years. One caveat. But if, like us, your preference is for the rich, but terrifically aromatic, vibrant, almost Riesling-infused wines -- just buy this one. You may have to wait some time before you taste another like it. read more »

2009 Domaine Ricard Sauvignon Pierre a Feu Touraine

Region: France > Loire
Grape type: Sauvignon Blanc

He's one of the most talented Sauvignon Blanc makers on the planet, producing Sancerre-like Sauvignon of such uncanny richness and minerality that his neighbors filed a lawsuit to try to keep Vincent Ricard's wines from showing them up. What these neighbors didn't realize was what a formidable opponent this mild-mannered young winemaker would turn out to be. read more »
